How to install a general faucet?

Plumber TipsFaucets are such parts in a kitchen or a bathroom that not only serve the purpose for which they are made but also to upgrade the looks of the room. Once bought, they need to be installed manually or by a hired plumber. It is not rare find people who want to do as many things on their own as they can. While this may consume more time and involves the risk of damage, the potential of learning is remarkable. However, a guide that nicely describes how to install general faucet can help in learning the installation method without rendering damage.

Step 1: Positioning the faucet

Every plumber begins installation by placing the faucet and the gasket on the provided position on the basin. Plastic mounting nuts have to be threaded on the shanks of the faucet from under the basin. This holds the faucet in position. It must be made sure that the larger side of the mounting nuts is up. It is recommended to verify the position of the faucet above the basin. People often have to unfit some parts only because they forgot to check the progress constantly. Besides, excessive force is required while tightening the nuts as it may become difficult to remove in future.

Step 2: Attaching water supply tubes

Typically, water supply tubes are the source of water to the faucet. To attach water supply tubes, the threads of water supply valve have to be wrapped with plumbers’ tape and putty. A plumber typically uses on plumbers’ tape but non-experts must adhere to safer options. Now, the water supply nut can be screwed to the shut-off valve and tightened with a wrench. The same step is to be repeated for faucet shank.

Step 3: Connecting the faucet lift rod

Lift-rod is inserted into the faucet from top of the basin and inserted into the rod-strap. It has to be ascertained whether the drain plugs open and close as desired. To connect the pivot rod with the lift-rod, one end of the spring clip has to be slid into the pivot rod. Once in place, both the rods should be in down position. The pivot rod should be inserted into the hole that is closest to lift-rod strap Proper opening/closing of drain plug by lift-rod is to be ascertained. One end of spring clip can be slid into pivot-rod to connect it with lift rod strap. Adjustment can be made by loosening the screws corresponding to the area.

Step 4: Flushing the faucet

Chips and debris are leftover even by a professional plumber, so, it is natural for amateurs. However, they should be removed before water is run lest the internal surface of fittings may get damaged. The faucet should be turned on before the water connection is restored. The water should be left running for 15 seconds. All the taps can be checked to ascertain proper fitting and flow.

If the situation appears to have complicated at any stage of faucet installation, a certified plumber should be contact to avoid any severe damage.
